01 November 2007 In the run up to preparations for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, a number of outreach activities and national events are currently being developed. To encourage international collaborations and support educators and science communicators in the field of astronomy the UK Association for Astronomy Education has set up a new email discussion listserve with the main aim of exchanging ideas, best practices and resources. The listserve is open to everyone with an interest in Astronomy from all sectors of education, public outreach, academic and amateur astronomy, and can be found at: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/ASTRONOMY-EDUCATION.html |

08 November 2007 The AAS and Association for AAE present an evening reception for K-12 teachers to gain knowledge and resources to take back to their classrooms to cover the latest science being discussed during the conference week. At the reception, teachers will be exposed to background scientific content through presentations related to the conference sessions, will have a chance to mingle with astronomers and will take home resources (and new connections) to use in their classrooms. The reception will be held on Monday 7 January 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00pm at the Hilton Austin Hotel. Registration for this even is now open. Space is limited so be sure register fast! |

The Association of Astronomy Educators (who sponsors these email blasts) has two time blocks at the NSTA National Convention in Boston and we would like YOU to present! The sessions below are geared toward K-12 educators and center around two broad subject areas: (1) Sun, Earth and Planets and (2) Beyond the Solar System. |
